It Was a Green Week!

Despite the big changes our classes faced this week, we still managed to pack in some St. Patrick's Day fun. We strengthened our fine motor skills this week by making Fruit Loop shamrock necklaces - delicious!

We worked as a team to build green smoothies. They were so healthy, and you would be surprised how many of our students loved them. Our recipe included frozen pineapple, coconut milk, spinach, yogurt, and green apples.

Yummy!

Show and Tell

We were so excited to have show and tell this week. Everyone was excited to show the class what they brought. Don't worry if you forgot to send an item, our students were just as excited to share special news if they forgot a toy to show!

Our New Space

We are getting settled into our temporary classroom. We will be using Mrs. Waters' kindergarten room while our classroom is being fixed. We are so proud with how well our student's handled all of the big changes they were faced with this week.

Leprechaun Traps!

Image result for how to catch a leprechaun book
We were busy last week preparing for St. Patrick's Day.

After listening to the story "How to Catch a Leprechaun" by Adam Wallace, the students designed and created a variety of leprechaun traps.  Will one of our traps catch a leprechaun over the weekend?

Shamrock Art!

We got messy painting shamrocks with marbles.  This fun activity strengthened hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills as the students tried to roll the marble around their pan without it falling out!

St. Patrick's Day Soup!

Hooray for Outside!

We were all thrilled to finally be outside this week.

A huge thank you goes out to Mrs. Mruk for making ice blocks for us to play with.

Spraying the snow!

Fun and Games

It was a short one, but we had plenty of fun and games in Pre-K this week!

Dinosaurs in Lava

Our Dino activity this week was a blast! Students worked on pre-literacy skills as we learned new vocabulary words and clapped out the syllables. After 'reading' the Volcano card, we showed the students how they could make their own volcanoes using baking soda and coloured vinegar. They had so much fun erupting volcanoes in this pre-science activity.

Box Fort

Pre-K's have been working away at transforming a few big boxes into a box fort. It's been so neat to see their imaginations at work! Our Makedo cardboard tools are so cool and help build fine-motor skills as they saw and screw the pieces together.

Games Day

Engaging in board game play is a fun way to learn important social skills such as sharing, turn taking, and waiting. This week we played the old favourites Pop up Pirate and Candyland, as well as a new game called Shark Bite. The Pre-K's were so excited to try the new game!

Dino Days!

It was another Dino-rific week in Pre-K! We went on a dino hunt around the school, painted dinos with our handprints, and found out how many of our feet fit inside a T-Rex foot. It was a lot of feet!  Other fine-motor fun included making Mat Man out of food for a special snack. We watched the story How Do Dinosaurs Stay Friends? and talked about kindness for Pink Shirt Day. Gross-motor activities this week included moving like a Dinosaur, practicing kicking skills in the gym, and finally getting out to the Park!

Pink Shirt Day!

Dinosaur Hunt!

 How Big is a T-Rex?

PreK students undertook a science inquiry by asking the question: How many feet will fit in a T-Rex foot? Each student added their shoe on top of the giant T-Rex footprint until it was covered. Then we counted the shoes. Guess how many?... 22!

Making Mat Man!

The Pre-Ks developed body awareness by singing the Mat Man song while building a body out of different foods.
