Camping Week

It was another wonderful week of camping in Pre-K!

Campfire Show and Tell

Thank you to all of our PK families for helping our students remember to bring something special for show and tell. Show and tell develops important skills such as public speaking, waiting, listening to others, and taking turns.

Lantern Making

We worked on our fine motor skills Monday when we made camping lanterns.

Campfire Songs

Our lanterns were just what we needed to have a campfire sing along!

Marshmallow Shooter

We apologize now for the marshmallows you might find all over your house for the next few months. Making marshmallow shooters was a blast. The students loved this simple camping craft. The action of pinching and pulling back the balloon helps to strengthen our pincer grasp which is required for proper pencil grasp as we get older.

S'mores on a Stick

What's camping without s'mores? This fun snack is so simple to make!
  1. Poke a marshmallow onto a stick
  2. Dip it in melted chocolate chips
  3. Dip it in graham cracker crumbs
Delicious!

Boating Imaginative Play

The camping play was intense this week. Our students had fun pretending to go fishing in our classroom 'boat'.

See more pics of our camping adventures here!

A Camping we will Go!

It was a week of Adventure in Pre-K! We moved back to our classroom, pitched a tent, and prepared for camping week!  We learned this song and had fun singing it around our class campfire. We also started a show and share around the campfire that will continue next week.

Painting with Marshmallows

Students engaged in some messy art fun this week using a marshmallow on a stick to paint some fiery looking pictures!

Nature Drawing

With the warmer weather, it was wonderful to get outside into nature. We talked about the different things we see in nature and had some quiet time to reflect and draw.

Imaginative Camping Play

Students were happy campers this week, play camping in our tent, pretending to roast marshmallows around our campfire, and fishing in our water table.

Speech and OT centres with Mrs. Bowers and Miss Kayla

Pre-K's helped build a silly sandwich while listening to the story Ten Hungry Pigs then participated in 3 fun centres! Each center engaged the students in building skills such as fine and gross motor, and listening skills. We used pig poppers, played a movement/directions game with fruits and vegetables, and got active with an obstacle course in the hall.

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs!

We had a fun week getting dirty with our bug theme! Sorry for all of the paint stained pants, arms, hair, and faces. The students were thrilled to paint with spaghetti "worms" and fly swatters this week. They also loved filling balloons with flour to make baby bumblebees.

Bug Hunt

We went hunting for bugs on Monday and Tuesday. The students were surprised by just how many bugs we could find right here in our school field.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

On Wednesday we read one of our favorite stories The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

After enjoying the book we used sponges to paint caterpillars of our own!

Monster Stations

On Thursday Mrs. Bowers and Miss Kayla created some fun stations for us to rotate through after reading the book Don't Push The Button by Bill Cotter. These stations were designed to help develop speech and language, gross and fine motor skills. The students were delighted to try out all of the fun activities.

More Fun on the Farm!

It was another week on the Farm in Pre-K! Check out all the Fun we had as we developed pre-literacy skills, built our fine and gross motor skills, and learned more about life on the farm.

The Farmer in the Dell

This was a fun song to sing and move to with our friends!

Butter Making

Pre-K's enjoyed making their own butter this week. Each student had their own little container of cream to shake. We took a walk around the whole school shaking and shaking our cream. We noticed part way through our walk we could no longer hear the liquid in the container. It had changed into whip-cream! We kept walking and by the time we got back to our class it had changed again into butter! Students ate their butter on crackers as a special snack.

Muddy Pig Painting

After reading Robert Munsch's very funny story, Pigs, we made chocolate pudding to paint on pigs. What messy fun!

Hopping Corn Science

We learned that farmers grow different things on the farm. Some farmers grow corn! Pre-K students participated in a couple fun corn activities. In this science experiment, students mixed water and baking soda, added a handful of popcorn, and then poured in a half cup of vinegar. It was so exciting to see the popcorn seeds dancing around in the jar!

Lego stamping Corn

We also painted a cute corn craft using lego as a stamper. Pre-K students worked on important fine-motor skills while stamping, writing their names, cutting, and gluing.

Happy Mother's Day!
