Happy Earth Week!

This week was all about celebrating our Earth. We read The Earth Book which was full of ideas for how we can care for our Earth. The Pre-K's shared their own ideas for how they could care for our world while we crafted an Earth using coffee filters, markers, and water spray. They had wonderful ideas for caring for the Earth! Our world is in good hands.  We also did our part to help keep our Earth clean by participating in a school yard clean up. See pics of our Earth art and more here:

Happy Easter!

Our week has been jam packed with Easter fun! Thank you to all of the parents who sent snacks for our Easter parties. The students love having special party food together!

Welcome

Our afternoon class is thrilled to welcome another educational assistant. Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Tracy O'Neill to our team!

Easter Party

We were so busy on our party day. We started our day with an egg hunt.

We explored with scientific concepts when we popped Easter eggs open using Alka Seltzer tablets and water.

We got messy dying eggs. Some of us even enjoyed an egg or two at snack time. Delicious!

We were so surprised when the Easter Bunny came for a visit! Thank you for stopping by Easter Bunny, that was exciting.

Easter Baking

The students had fun measuring, pouring, and mixing to create some special Easter cookies this week.

Painting With Eggs

We strengthened our fine motor skills by using plastic Easter eggs as our paintbrush this week.

What a fun week! We hope everyone has a Happy Easter and enjoys the long weekend.

Bunnies, Bunnies, Bunnies!

We began our Easter themed week with a bounce; singing and dancing to the Disco Bunny Bounce, playing Bunny Tag in the gym and acting out All the Sleeping Bunnies song.

What's in the EGG?

We used our bunny ears to play a listening game this week. Our game was so fun we forgot to snap any pictures! The students took turns shaking plastic Easter eggs while everyone listened and tried to guess what was inside. The students loved this simple game. You could easily play it at home too!

Spring Place mats!

Food Exploration

This week we played the food game. We explored with some new foods while we made fruit kabobs. We used cantaloupe, canary melon, starfruit, kiwi, and mangoes. Touching, smelling, and exploring new foods is a wonderful experience for picky eaters. Even if they don't taste the food, this is a good place to start.

Pre-Printing song

We sang a fun little song to reinforce starting at the top when you print your letters. The song is called "Where Do You Start Your Letters?" You can find it on YouTube and sing it at home too! Printing letters from the top down is the correct technique and a habit that we are trying to instill in all of our students.

Spring has Sprung!

It looks like spring has finally sprung in Devon. We celebrated spring last week by painting spring flowers, creating rain clouds in a jar, and singing a cute little spring song. The song we sang is called "Spring is Here" you can sing it at home too!

Painting Flowers

Thank you Mrs. Waters' kindergarten class for letting us borrow your paint shirts this week. We had fun strengthening our hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills while we painted, cut, and glued together our flowers.

Rain Cloud in a Jar

We explored scientific concepts by making rain clouds in a jar. You can make rain clouds at home too. Our students loved this project, lots of them even asked to take the clouds home! Making a rain cloud is simple:
  1. Fill a clear jar 3/4 of the way with water
  2. Add a 1-2 inch layer of shave cream
  3. Use eye droppers to drop colored water onto the shaving cream
  4. Watch your cloud to see when it starts raining!

Animal Breathing

We introduced our students to a new calming technique this week, animal breathing. Animal breathing involves laying on your back with a stuffed animal on your tummy while breathing in and out slowly. If you breath deep enough you can see your animal going up and down with your tummy.

Mindful Coloring

We participated in mindful coloring on Thursday. The students enjoyed quietly coloring while listening to relaxing music.

A Very Hungry Caterpillar

We read and sequenced "A Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle using felt boards and pictures this week. We followed the caterpillars journey as he ate through various foods, built a cocoon around himself, and eventually emerged as a beautiful butterfly.
